Carlo Marchione...Freelance Illustrator ExtraordinaireMy Story

Carlo Marchione was born into a loving Italian Family some 12 miles South of Boston. He was raised on a steady diet of home-made pasta and cartoons. Carlo began drawing at an early age and continued well into high school. He loved creating comic strips and super heroes. Mr. Larson, Carlo's high school art teacher, discovered his knack for using line weight in his drawings and introduced him to the art form of caricatures.

With his ability to capture humorous likenesses, Carlo turned it into a job drawing funny portraits at Boston's Faneuil Hall Marketplace during the summer breaks from College. It was more fun than working in fast food.

Carlo earned his Bachelor's Degree in Illustration from UMass - Dartmouth in 1994. Along the way, he drank lots of coffee, created drawings, photographs and the occasional monotype print. All of that, plus seeing Jane's Addiction play live, helped further mold his creativity.

His approach has been shaped by a variety of sources. He credits the work of Philip Burre, Ralph Steadman, David Downton, Derek Hess, Shepherd Fairly, Alphons Mucha, Andy Warhol, Modigliani and Dale Stephanos for influencing his style. Carlo has always been intrigued by people and faces as subject matter.

In recent years he's taken more risks with his art. The work is mostly done with acrylic and ink on paper. He's thrown in some patterns and color as well.

He still appreciates home-made pasta and can now enjoy it with a glass of fine wine. Contact me for more information.
